For the past several years I have made an effort to change my eating lifestyle. I have been through two programs; both times losing almost sixty pounds. In both instances, once I tried to break free from the program, the weight came back on. Age, hormones and heredity are my foes, then throw in a sedentary office job, with frequent travel trips, for the perfect storm. In both cases, the key to my success was logging the food I was eating. Admittedly, logging food intake is a chore at first, but once you get in the habit, it becomes second nature. I have logged food on fancy charts provided by the first program I joined, special food journals, even plain spiral bound notebooks. It doesn’t really matter where you log your food, just that you consistently make an entry to feel accountable. I have transitioned over to my cell phone since I always have it with me. Do a search in your APP store and try one out. I am currently using the Noom app and love it. Over the years I have changed my cooking and meal prep habits and have tried just about every tip I come across to aide me on my quest to lose weight. Our last trip in the RV we grilled our first burger of the season and I shared a snapshot on my Instagram page. I didn’t really question the fact that it wasn’t a ‘real’ burger because it has become my go to burger for quite some time now. I don’t even miss the greasy beef burger anymore. So here is my tried and true recipe for my turkey burgers. I make a huge batch and freeze them ahead of time. When it’s time to grill them up, I pull them right from the freezer and onto the grill. It is easier to grill them that way. If you let them thaw too much, they stick to the grill. High heat and don’t flip them too early. Happy Grilling!

3 lbs. Ground Turkey

1/4 – 1/2 cup Seasoned Bread Crumbs

1/4 cup finely diced onions

2 Egg Whites; slightly beaten

1/4 cup Fresh Parsley; chopped

1 clove Garlic; peeled & minced

1 tsp. Salt

1/4 tsp. Ground Black Pepper

Mix all ingredients together well and shape into patties. Mix should make about 12 patties. Start with smallest amount of bread crumbs adding more if needed for consistency. Place patties onto parchment or waxed paper, wrap each burger individually, leaving them on the parchment paper. Lay flat to freeze. Once frozen, place together in container or another freezer bag to free up space. Do not thaw before cooking. Grill on hot grill to get a good sear and do not flip burger too early.
